“Brothers and sisters in Christ: Through the Sacrament of Baptism we are initiated into Christ’s holy church. We are incorporated into God’s mighty acts of salvation and given new birth through water and the Spirit. All this is God’s gift, offered to us without price.”
“Through Confirmation, and through the reaffirmation of our faith, we renew the covenant declared at our baptism, acknowledge what God is doing for us, and affirm our commitment to Christ’s holy church.”
(United Methodist Hymnal, page 33)
What is Confirmation? Confirmation is an intense series of discipleship classes geared toward youth, which marks the beginning of a lifetime of mature spiritual discovery. Confirmation is a way to help our youth understand that God has called them to the church, and that this call is not just a “one-time” experience, but a lifelong experience, extending far beyond the confirmation experience. It is a time to affirm God’s movement in their lives, and help them to develop a deep desire to follow Jesus Christ. It is an opportunity for youth to explore and learn about the Christian faith and United Methodism.
Who participates in confirmation? Confirmation is open to all youth in grades 6 – 8. These youth will ask an adult to serve as their “Friend-in-Faith,” and participate in the classes with them. So, we will have youth and adults in our Confirmation classes.
