2023 Combined Youth Mission Trip to White Lake, NC Day 1

Work Group 1: Today we had to go to Site 2 for our job because there was a death in the family of the people who we were serving. We worked hard and came back and got in the lake. It was such a good day.

Work Group 2:

The first day of our mission trip was a success. Our group worked at a house owned by a man named Robert. When we first arrived at our site, we were greeted by his dogs, Lady and Baby. Our plan was to immediately start working, but that was pretty much impossible without our equipment that was supposed to come in a trailer. On it’s way to the site, the trailer got a flat tire, causing us to start later than most of us would have liked. When the trailer finally got there, we started our jobs. We pressure washed the ramp, removed doors and door frames, pulled weeds, cleared out sticks and logs from the backyard, fixed a place in the floor, put in new flooring in one room, and ate popsicles. Group 1 and 2 were combined at one site, because the homeowner of the site they were supposed to go to lost a relative and weren’t going to be at the house. That meant there were more people than jobs (and room in the house), so there was a lot of sitting around outside. Despite the almost hour long car ride, it was a pretty good first day. - Isabell

Work Group 3:

Throughout the course of July 24, 2023 we(who is regarded as “Group 3”) were tasked to go to a place of residence in order to complete home improvements. Today we were tasked with demolishing and installing three new stair units. Upon arriving at said place of residence in order to preform said task we were met with a homeowner who immediately met us with kindness and gratefulness for our promised work. This task assigned to us, after said formalities of greeting, involved not just demolishing and installing said units it also required we cut and construct said units. This was a laborious task that was rather draining in terms of energetic capabilities. The homeowner of said abode was gracious enough to provide cylindrical parcels of meat on a bun(hot dog). This is unusual in this line of work which increased our work ethic and tightened the relations between the homeowner and us. Overall, the experience as a whole was a unique experience that left us grateful that we were given the opportunity to provide a service for the homeowner. - Jack B. and Carter W.
